Chancellor’s Honors Awards

The Chancellor’s Honors Banquet is held each spring to recognize students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University of Tennessee for their extraordinary achievements. Below is a list of awards specific to the Commission for Disability.


Commission for Disability Undergraduate Student Award

2023 Awardee: Sofie Janssen

Please nominate an undergraduate student, with or without a disability, who has been a champion for support and/or recognition of people with disabilities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for this Commission for Disability (CFD) undergraduate student award. Undergraduate students are eligible, based on nomination by self, fellow students, staff, or faculty members.

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • The nominee must be currently enrolled as a full-time UT Knoxville undergraduate student.
  • The nominee must be in good standing, in both academics and student conduct.
  • Preference will be given to nominees who are actively involved in the UT community, including participating in one or more organization(s)/group(s) that promote accessibility.

Nominees must maintain eligibility through the review period.

Commission for Disability Graduate Student Award 

2023 Awardee: Jill Walton

Please nominate a graduate student, with or without a disability, who has been a champion for support and/or recognition of people with disabilities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for this Commission for Disability (CFD) graduate student award. Graduate students are eligible, based on nomination by self, fellow students, staff, or faculty members.

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • The nominee must be currently enrolled as a UT Knoxville graduate student.
  • The nominee must be in good standing, in both academics and student conduct.
  • Preference will be given to nominees who are actively involved in the UT community, including participating in one or more organization(s)/group(s) that promote accessibility.

Nominees must maintain eligibility through the review period.

Commission for Disability Advocate Award

2023 Awardee: Kimberly Mitchell

Please nominate a faculty or staff member, with or without a disability, who has been a champion for support and/or recognition of people with disabilities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for this Commission for Disability (CFD) faculty/staff award. Faculty and staff members are eligible, based on nomination by self, fellow faculty, staff members, or students.

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Faculty and staff members are eligible, based on nomination by self, faculty member, staff member, or student.
  • UT Knoxville faculty/staff members in good standing, including all faculty ranks, and exempt and non-exempt staff are eligible to receive this award.

Nominees must maintain eligibility through the review period.
